Don't Fear Red Meat
People have been told for decades now to stay away from red meat. Red meat has been given a bad name and associated with coronary heart disease, high cholesterol and more. But the reality is that red meat has been eaten by mankind for thousands of years with no ill effects. It has not been until the 1900's to now that red meat has been the evil meat. The real issue with red meat is with the feed, hormones and anti-biotics that modern cattle farmers use with their animals.
Cows and cattle naturally eat grass like many animals - not corn or grains. And all the drugs and chemicals used on these animals with the unnatural feed sources cause a host of issues for the animals which ends up on your plate.
Does that mean avoid all red meat - hell no! It means that if you like red meat like I do, you have to be selective in what you buy. Look for bison meat or grass fed, hormone and anti-biotic free meat like the types pictured here in Publix.
Red meat should never be your sole source of protein anyway. But if you like to eat red meat occasionally, then pick the good kinds and enjoy. Keep your protein sources varied with many different types of meats, poultry and fish. Never eat too much of anything. Variety is necessary for long term nutrient intake and to keep you on track with your meal plan.
So don't fear red meat. Simply make better educated choices and enjoy.
